The Vascular/Endovascular Surgery Training Manual is a publication compliments of W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Written and edited by leaders in vascular surgery, it is intended to serve as an educational resource for medical students, residents and fellows pursuing training in vascular and endovascular surgery.
Known to many as the "Combat Manual," it was first published in 1999 and is now in its third edition.

Patrick Stone, M.D., FACS
Vascular Surgeon, Vanderbilt University
Patrick Stone, M.D., is a professor of Vascular Surgery at Vanderbilt University, vice-chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery, director of the vascular laboratory and program director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Stone was an editor for the second edition of the Gore Vascular/Endovascular manual (Combat Manual) published in 2012.
Mentored by Ali F. AbuRahma M.D., Dr. Stone worked with him to complete five prospective randomized trials around antibiotic prophylaxis and vascular surgery, carotid patching and stump pressures, as well as created U.S. guidance for peripheral vascular procedures.
Dr. Stone’s passion is maintaining a diverse clinical practice while mentoring and training the next generation of general and vascular surgeons.
William Johnson, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon, NYU Langone Health
William Johnson, M.D., is clinical assistant professor, Department of Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his vascular surgery fellowship at NYU Langone Hospitals and is board certified in vascular surgery.

Leigh Ann O’Banion, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon, University of California San Francisco Fresno
Leigh Ann O’Banion, M.D., is an associate clinical professor, Department of Surgery, at the University of California San Francisco Fresno, UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research.
She completed her general surgery residency at UCSF Fresno and subsequently completed her vascular fellowship at UCSF. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General and Vascular Surgery. She is also a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
Dr. O’Banion has been a faculty member in the Department of Surgery since 2017. She is an associate editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Cases Innovations and Techniques. She currently serves as chair of the Communications committee of the WVS; co-chair of the SVS Foundation Gala Committee; chair of the AVF Digital Media Committee; on the SVS Appropriateness Committee; and the VESS Vascular Research Consortium Committee.
Her clinical research focuses on limb salvage and outcomes-based research on vascular patients with major amputation.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and fellow of the Society of Vascular Surgery (FSVS), Dr. O’Banion is also a member of the Western Vascular Society, Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society, the American Venous Forum and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
M. Libby Weaver, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon, University of Virginia Health
M. Libby Weaver, M.D., is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Virginia where she is director of the Multidisciplinary Limb Preservation Service and associate program director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship. She completed her fellowship training at the University of Florida and general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins, where she received several teaching awards and was inducted into the Distinguished Teaching Society for the School of Medicine.
Amanda Fobare, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon, Kaiser Permanente
Amanda Fobare, M.D., completed medical school at Boston University, followed by a general surgery residency and a vascular surgery fellowship at Emory University. She currently practices at Kaiser Permanente in the Pacific Northwest.
Chong Linus Li, M.D.
The Vascular Care Group
Chong Linus Li, M.D., is a vascular surgeon and a trilingual speaker (English, Mandarin and Japanese) with broad clinical and academic interests.
He earned his medical degree from Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo with the Alpha Omega Alpha honor in 2018 and completed an integrated vascular surgery residency at New York University Langone Health in 2023.
He has broad experience in clinical research in vascular surgery with many podium presentations in national and regional meetings, as well as publications in aortic and venous disease. He has been the editor of textbooks and a reviewer for vascular surgery journals and has led or founded vascular surgery committees and societal groups. He has done many outreach missions and collaborations in Asia, working with physicians there to advance vascular surgery care and technologies.
As a provider, Dr. Li is experienced and comfortable with open, endovascular, hybrid and medical management for vascular patients. He treats all pathologies that encompass the vascular surgery field.
Clara Gomez-Sanchez, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon, University of San Francisco, San Francisco
Clara M. Gomez-Sanchez, M.D., is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of California San Francisco. She is passionate about surgical education as well as addressing health care disparities in vascular care.
Molly Ratner, M.D.
General Surgery Resident, NYU Langone Health
Molly Ratner, M.D., is a general surgery resident at New York University Langone Hospital. She plans on specializing in vascular surgery and has a particular interest in health, human rights and global surgery.
